Comments->Last time I operated from Alphonse Island in April 2000. The
resort staff was very helpful with the antenna. It was a 40m delta loop high in
a palm tree fed by an Icom AH4 and IC-706MKII. The chalets are spaced such that
you do not bother your neighbor. I have made contact with the General Manager
for another one week stay in April 2005. They are again willing to help.
Ham Friendly Hotel - Desroches Resort. Photos of this resort can be found on Bert, PA3GIO's web page at: http://www.xs4all.nl/~pa3gio/S79/ Note: Bert says the Desroches is not a good place for SSB (noise to other guests/neighbors). A better hotel is the Alphonse, which has separate bungalows, and is in the same IOTA group. Bert also notes that the management at the Desroches and Alphonse has changed recently…
Ham Friendly Hotel - Mahe Island. Photos of this resort can be found on PA3GIO's web page at: http://www.xs4all.nl/~pa3gio/S79/
Interesting Possibility… I was surfing the web and came across the following villa for those of you who don’t like hotels. This place has NOT been used by hams, it just looked like an interesting possibility on Mahe: http://www.unusualvillarentals.com/africa/lamaisondilot.shtml de K2KW Aug 23, 2000
Ham Friendly Chalet/Villa:
John, G4IRN sends this report in September 2003:
North Point Guest House: Ask for the 'Sea View' Chalet. This is
on top of a cliff over the sea with a great take off towards USA, Europe and
Japan (although the latter two are through trees). There is a small piece of
raised ground behind the chalet that is great for vertical antennas or masts.
Although there are trees around, it didn't seem that good for wire
antennas. I paid GBP60 cash per night B&B. The guest House will
arrange airport transfers but I used a local taxi driver with a van
(better for antennas): Andre Pool, tel 766288.

Travel Agent:
Reported by Roger, G3NQF
I CONTACTED "MASON TRAVEL" AT VICTORIA, MAHA, WITH AN ENQUIRY ABOUT A
PLACE TO OPERATE AWAY FROM THE GRANIT HILLS. THEY WERE VERY HELPFUL. THEY
SUGGESTED A BEACH BUNGALOW ON THE NEARBY CORAL ISLAND OF "CERF" OR
SURF. THIS WAS A SPECIAL OFFER, NOT IN ADVERTISED ACCOMMODATION & DEPENDING
ON A PRIVATE AGREEMENT WITH THE OWNER. I DID NOT INVESTIGATE FURTHER. IT’S A
SHORT BOAT TRIP FROM VICTORIA WITH GOOD SIGNAL PATH TO NORTH & WEST. MAHE'
IS A FEW MILES TO THE EAST. Visit their website at: WWW.masonstravel.com
