Ham Friendly Villa:
Information provided by Stefan, DL7AOS, who visited on 10/2004
Web site: http://www.azorentour.de/html/english.html
Comments: three houses for rent, two on the same property, one abt. 200 m apart
- lots of space for antennas
- very friendly people (german couple, Mr. and Mrs. Junge)
- fair prices
- worked as CU2Z CQ WW SSB 2004 from here: perfect take off to North/South
America, quite bad to Europe/Asia (700 m high hill!)
- Note: only one 220V/16A power line for both houses! Two amps are OK, but some
voltage drop possible
- take VHF/UHF-Handy with you: lots of repeaters on the Azores, local HAMs are
very helpful (e.g. Pedro CU2JX and Jose CU2CE)
- rent a car to see the island
Ham Friendly Location:
The following was supplied by Toby DJ7MGQ, who visited in 2002:
Casa Verde near Ginetes, Sao Miguel, Azores http://www.azoresnet.com/vacation-homes/
Very friendly German couple (Gisela & Thorsten Kosera), who had no problems with a 40 meter long dipole in their large(!) garden. I would however suggest asking before arriving. I stayed in the Casa Verde cottage. The take off towards NA is absolutely amazing ...
There is a lot of information important to hams traveling to Azores at: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Heights/5790/ (You can find a list of CU hams with their Email addresses)
