Three floor apartments 500m
from beach in Sfakaki 11 km from Rethymon.
If you get a top floor room it is possible to string a sloping dipole
(height approx 12 meters facing west) down to wasteland at side of apartments
for HF operation (rooms 301 and 314 are the best option). VHF operation is best
carried out from hills above Rethymon where under right conditions you can get
into I,SV etc. with a handheld. Be warned: The apartments are right next to a
main road and it is fairly noisy! Accommodation is fairly basic and probably
would suit people less bothered about home comforts. One thing to be aware of
is that they kick you out of your room at 12 pm on the day of departure. We had a night flight at 6.25 AM so we were
roomless for 15 hours which was not pleasant. There is a safe in each
room but it is rather small and will only take a rig of IC706 size. When
booking ask for top floor apartments preferably
room 301 or 314. You could string an antenna from the second floor rooms (201,
214), but the height would compromise DX
performance.
