TA – Turkey
Ham Friendly Hotel:
The following information provided by Carsten, DL2OBO who visited in January 2003:
Hotel Lonicera Alanya-Avsallar Hotel name is changed often, so do a search at www.google.com using the following words "lonicera+alanya"
Ask for room in the main building, facing west. 4th floor rooms # 1418-1421 are ok. The roof is flat. Suggest taking a fishing rod and 20m long wire for an antenna. Ladder line feed and a coupler and you can enjoy. also beams are possible but ask for permission for big antennas. My fishing rod antenna was hidden and no one from the hotel made comments. 220V. in January I paid 150 Euro for a single room, incl. breakfast, lunch and dinner, incl. flight from DL.
Visit the Club station in Antalya TA4KA, look for
their repeater on 2m. The club is in a
14 story building near the harbor. From 1000-1400 local time every day there
are club members at the station. 3el yagi on top (14th floor!)
Other tips: leave your clothes at home, buy new ones cheap on the market. Do
not buy carpet, leather pants or jewelry if really don't need it. Even with this TA4 prefix you have pile
ups. Suggest using CW and/ or WARC bands, as there is little activity
there. On 30m I had 4hour pile up
without any break. Visit TRAC website
and print out a document which you can show at airport customs or when you are
asked by official persons. It is in Turkish language and will explain what you
do and why you are allowed.
