Rent-a-QTH: Palau Pacific Resort on Arakebesang Island, about 30 minutes from Airport. The full-service 5 Star Resort is on a 30m hill overlooking the ocean. Private beach with excellent snorkeling/diving, 24 hour room service, and everything else you would expect from a 5 star hotel.
Station: The ham shack is Room 214. New FT1000MP, FT920, and VL-1000 Amp. The 14m high crank-up tower supports: a Force 12 C3 Tribander, 3.4-28 MHz trapped dipole, 10/18/24 MHz WARC rotary dipole, Cushcraft R-7000 vertical and 8 element 6M Yagi. Shack also has 2 toolboxes with extra coax, connectors, soldering iron, maps, and instruction books. Hams need to bring: keyer/bug, headpones, and logs. Electricity: 200v. Note: Equipment is not left in the room when there are no hams there… feedlines come in through closet where there is a hidden compartment.
License: Apply many months in advance for a license. There are no automatic reciprocal privileges for foreign hams in Palau. In practice, foreign hams with proof of current licensing will usually be granted a one-year license and a vanity call with their initials, if available.
Other Information: There are very few resident hams on the island, but the chief engineer at the hotel is Shoto-san, T88SS (who is not very active). This information was provided by Steve K7USJ in July of 2000.
